Colorado Mountain Christmas

Eric and I spent Christmas in
Frisco Colorado this year.  He was
able to ski several days and I
was able to relax a bit.

So, I'll get to the pictures from our
trip, but first......
My sweet nephew and niece with Santa!

(For some reason, my pictures
are not in chronological order... but
here they are.)

We flew to Denver and spent a night
in Greeley before heading up to the mountains.
Ronda and I did some baking!

Ronda and I had a blast
tubing on the Frisco sledding hill
while the boys were skiing.  They had
Christmas music playing on the loud speakers
and the view was beautiful.  We started
out in beautiful blue sky weather and watched
the snow clouds roll in...

While the boys were skiing, we went tubing!

Love this sweet family

On our way to Frisco,
we stopped for lunch at Bojo's Pizza.
It was delicious.

Ronda and I went shopping
in Vail.  It was a pretty area.

Shopping in Vail, Colorado

Eric and Brian got to bottle
whiskey at the Breckenridge Distillery.
They had a lot of fun and said it was
a neat experience.

I got to spend time with my friend
Veronica - she has been a close friend
since middle school.  She and her husband
live in the Brighton area of Colorado,
so they drove up to Frisco and had dinner
with us one evening.  It was lovely to see her.

Ronda and I ate at the Butterhorn Bakery,
which was delicious.  Take a look at that cinnamon roll!

Ronda and I worked on a puzzle all week.
It was so fun and very relaxing.  Probably
one of the more difficult puzzles I've ever put
together though, because the pieces were oddly shaped.

And finally, my favorite picture from the week,
Eric and his dad on the mountain.  It was so cold
that Eric had ice in his beard.  Brrrr.

Memorial Day Hike

I told Eric a while ago that I would
hike Ben Lomond with him
before we left Utah.  Ben Lomond
is one of the tallest in the area.
It is 9,712 feet tall!
Well, that day finally came.

The hike to Ben Lomond is
about 8 miles one way.
(doesn't it just make you tired
to think about it?!)

Needless to say, today my body
absolutely hates me.  And Oliver
has been asleep since we gave him
a bath last night.  But the sights were
beautiful! Here's a taste of
our Memorial Day Hike!

Ben Lomand has to be just around this corner... nope.

Oliver got so hot.  Fortunately, There
were patches of snow for him to lay on.

Blending in with his surroundings

Our friend Ben came hiking with us

There were lots of big snow patches we had to travel across... slippery and scary.

That big mountain back there is Ben Lomond - still so far away!

This photo shows the trail with snow on it...
nothing to stop you if you slip on the snow... YIKES!

Eric and Oliver reenacting a scene from the Lion King

OGDEN!

So we walked as far as we could on the trail...
and with about a mile to go to get to the summit,
there was nothing but snow and it seemed too
dangerous.  So we turned around a walked back.
All in all, we figure we hiked about 13 miles roundtrip.

And we saw a snake... which I did not enjoy...

Poor Oliver had to be carried part of the way back.  He was WORN out.

This is a beautiful hike for anyone
that has the opportunity.  You don't
even have to hike very far before the
scenery is gorgeous.  But if you
want to go all the way to Ben Lomond,
probably wait until July when all of the
snow has melted.

Christmas!

We had a lovely Christmas.
If you read my post about
Natalie's Birthday (Click here to read it),
you already know that we almost
didn't make it to the midwest.

The airport

Utah got this crazy
snow storm the day we were supposed to
leave.  Our flight to Tulsa kept getting
delayed and then finally canceled.
There were no other flights available
over the weekend, but my
brother came to the rescue.

Waiting for a flight.... Trying to stay positive!

Since we were going to Dallas for
a few days for Natalie's Birthday,
Trevor got us a flight to Dallas
and my parents met us there.  Then
we rode back to Tulsa with them
after the party for Christmas!

Finally on the plane... getting de-iced

But then our luggage didn't make it!
So the airline gave us sweet little
travel kits which included these awesome
sleep shirts, along with toothpaste and a
toothbrush.  It was close to 3AM by the
time we got to Trevor and Candace's house.

In our airline provided sleep shirts

The next morning, Trevor got us
donuts, so that made up for our
missing bags - I think so at least.

And then we got to see these sweet
little faces - and that really made
the trip worth it!

My niece and fur-nephew!

Natalie loves her Uncle Eric!

Lunch and pictures with Santa!

Anyway, the rest of the pictures in this blog
are from our Christmas celebration
in Oklahoma.

This was our first
Christmas without Mimi and Pa.
We missed them so much.
Christmas was always at their house.
So, being the traditionalists that we are,
we tried to do everything the same.
We made all of the usual foods
(enough to feed an army)
and we put Mimi and Pa's Christmas
tree up instead of my Mom and Dad's tree.

My mom made us all special keepsake
ornaments out of ornaments from
Mimi and Pa's Christmas tree
and their memorial folders.

I'm thankful for the many wonderful
memories I have of Mimi and Pa.
And I'm thankful for the
 traditions that will keep them
close to our hearts and a
part of our lives for years to come.

I learned how to make Chocolate Pie and Coconut Cream Pie!

Making Christmas Cookies!

On Christmas Eve, we went to
look at Christmas lights.  We started at
Rhema and then drove around to houses
that the newspaper listed as view worthy.

Christmas Day...

Santa came!

Christmas Day with Taps and Tango

We wore aprons made by Granny

It wouldn't be a holiday without Kraft Macaroni and Cheese

My mom did such a great job with the table decor.
And we used Mimi's gorgeous china.

We had our traditional Christmas cookies and several delicious pies.

Passing out the Christmas gifts

Eric's new golf shoes!

My awesome Bose bluetooth speaker!

Eric's GoPro Camera (for awesome skiing footage)

Some of my mom's Christmas wrapping paper had glitter on it - so
she was vacuuming me off... what a mess.  But the paper was beautiful.

Eric and I had a Christmas dinner before we left for the midwest.
We used our new Christmas china that Grandma Peg gave us.

Then, in the first part of January,
we celebrated Oliver's 2nd Gotcha Day!
We have had him for two years!
