Temple Square

Yesterday, we took the FrontRunner (train)
from Ogden's Union Station to downtown
Salt Lake City.  It was so much fun!

It took about 45 minutes to get from
Ogden to Salt Lake City, with about
five stops in between the two.

On the southwest corner of Temple Square
is the Assembly Hall. This building was
constructed between 1877 and 1882.
Currently, the Assembly Hall hosts
 occasional free weekend music concerts
and is filled as overflow for the Church's
 Annual and Semiannual General Conferences.

Temple Square in Downtown Salt Lake City is
one of Utah's number one tourist
 attractions and world headquarters
of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. This magnificent granite
 structure was constructed over a
period of 40 years, from the laying of
the cornerstones on 6 April 1853 to the
 dedication on 6 April 1893.

Attracting 3 million to 5 million visitors
a year, Temple Square is the most popular
tourist attraction in Utah, bringing in
more visitors than the Grand Canyon
or Yellowstone National Park

The temple is considered the
House of the Lord
and is sacred to members of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Today Church members gather in
more than 100 temples worldwide to
 worship and participate in
sacred ordinances.
Temple Square is surrounded by a
high wall that was built shortly after
 the block was designated
for the building of the temple.

The square also became the headquarters
of the LDS church. Other buildings were
built on the plot, including a tabernacle
and Endowment House, both of which
were later torn down. The Salt Lake
Tabernacle was built in 1867 to accommodate
the General Conferences of the church,
with a seating capacity of 8,000.

"Scroooooge"
Eric thought this looked like
something out of the
Christmas Carol.

There was a wedding going on while we were at Temple Square

Trax - we rode this around downtown Salt Lake.

We decided to go into the Planetarium for a minute.
It's a pretty neat place.  I got to visit Mars.

On Mars

Eric visited Mars as well

I visited the moon also

We had so much fun exploring the city.
It's fun to act like a tourist in your own town.
