The Dresser Project Part I

I have had big plans for Eric's
old dresser ever since we got
our new master bedroom furniture and
moved my old furniture into the guest room.

This week, I finally tackled the project.

The dresser - before picture

I started sanding the dresser before I found an easier way...

I used a Cover Stain - Just one coat will do it.
Then you don't have to sand for hours and hours and hours.

I picked a deep red and a charcoal color

First coat - finished

Then I thought, I might as well get my other projects going as well -
my chair that had paint chipping and a night stand.

I still have some blending and aging to do, but I love the bits of charcoal in with the red

The new knobs I got from Hobby Lobby - love them

Eric is going to turn the top two drawers into shelves.  We plan to use
this piece as an entertainment center for the time being.

So, this is my project thus far...
I'll post the final product as soon as it's finished!

Not bad for my first attempt at
re-finishing furniture, right?!

Hubbard Golf Course

Eric has been telling me about
the incredible views from the golf course
on base, so today, I decided to tag along
to test out my new photography skills
(still a work in progress).

I took a photography class on Tuesday.
I bought a Groupon for it
back in January and I finally
got around to taking it.
I learned SO much, but it's going
to take some time to work it all out
and remember everything.
I took really great notes though.

Anyway, here is the Hubbard Golf Course
at Hill AFB in Utah.

An amazing view of the Great Salt Lake

I had to take a few pictures of my cute husband, also.

Rob, Eric, and Brett at the Driving Range

This is the valley in between base and our house.  You can see our neighborhood on the right.

Ben Lomond in the background - I believe it's the highest peak in our area.

An Evening with Joe Bonamassa

If you ever have the opportunity
to go see Joe Bonamassa,
don't think about it -
just do it.

He is an amazing musician.
He flies under the radar somehow,
so not many people seem to have heard
of him - but he has been making great music
since 2003. His new album (13th album)
comes out in the next couple of months.

Check out this video of Joe Bonamassa -
this is one of the songs he performed last night.
It's 10 minutes long, but worth a listen.

We started out the evening
at Ruth's Chris Steak House.
Delicious.

Abravanel Hall

Abravanel Hall is right by Temple Square
 in downtown Salt Lake City

Abravanel Hall - where the Utah Symphony plays

The light fixtures were pretty

Eric estimates that this set is worth around $15,000

We saw an awesome mullet

He used at least 8 different guitars throughout the evening

My favorite moment was when he thanked us
for coming out to see him on a Sunday evening.
He said, "Abravanel Hall is the only business
opened in this town today, what is up with that?!"

We had an amazing evening.
Eric said it was the best concert he has ever been to
(and he has been to a lot of concerts, so that's saying
something, I think).
